PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (July 8, 2026) – When I began my Master’s in Electrical Engineering at Prairie View A&M University, I was determined to advance my career, but I had struggled to secure internships during my undergraduate years. Even after attending my first career fair as a graduate student, I still wasn’t able to receive an internship offer. That all changed after I met Mr. Evans Cooper during one of my monthly scholarship meetings.
Mr. Cooper took the time to understand my situation and encouraged me to meet with him one-on-one. Over the next three to four months, we worked closely together on strengthening my professional skills. He provided honest, constructive feedback on my resume, interviewing skills, communication, networking, and overall professionalism. He also taught me important workplace etiquette, including professional dining, office attire, business communication, and how to present myself with confidence in a corporate environment. The growth I experienced during that time was incredible.
By the following spring career fair, I received multiple internship offers from top engineering companies. Those opportunities ultimately helped me launch my career, and today I am working as a full-time Electrical Engineer at Black & Veatch. Looking back, I can confidently say that Career Services played a major role in my professional development. The guidance, mentorship, and constructive feedback I received from Mr. Cooper continue to help me every day in my career. I highly recommend that every student take advantage of Career Services.
