The IGNITE program within the Prairie View A&M University Department for Careers and Professional Development is a summer-based support and engagement experience designed to help students maximize their internships, externships, and related professional experiences. Rather than a traditional workshop series, IGNITE functions as a supportive forum where students can share real-time experiences, ask questions, and receive guidance while actively working in their roles.
This program brings together career coaches—and occasionally employer partners—in an open, discussion-based environment. Students are encouraged to talk through challenges, reflect on their progress, and receive practical, real-time advice tailored to their internship or experiential learning setting. Coaches also provide targeted presentations on how to get the most out of internship experiences, including professionalism, workplace communication, skill development, and career reflection strategies.
IGNITE is intentionally designed as a safe, interactive space where students can process their experiences while still in them. It helps bridge the gap between academic preparation and real-world application by allowing students to connect what they are learning in the classroom with what they are experiencing in professional environments. This approach ensures students are not only completing internships, but actively growing from them in meaningful and guided ways.
At its core, IGNITE strengthens student confidence, professional development in real time, and experiential learning outcomes across all disciplines.
